Episode 3 - Doing something worthwhile

Hi there folks,
Hope you're having a restful Sunday; especially now that Spring is finally here (in the UK). The weather is brightening up, the days are getting longer - and the good news keeps on building.
I had mentioned in one of my recent Facebook status updates that I had some exciting news for you. More of that later....

I wanted to talk to you about one thing in particular this month. You will all be aware, that in my attempt to lose weight and get healthy again, I am raising money for Pancreatic Cancer UK, at the same time. To date, I have raised - through the generosity of friends and work colleagues; approx £350. This amount will help to make a substantial difference to the work of a charity I really believe in, and I wanted to say thank you to you all for your generosity of spirit and 'pocket'!

Pancreatic Cancer UK
Pancreatic Cancer UK is a UK based charity that is determined to make a difference by providing support and information to those affected by this evil disease, and by raising awareness and funding research. It provides advocacy for patients and families and lobbying to achieve higher priority for pancreatic cancer.

So why is the work of this charity so important, especially when you're being asked to support the work of so many cancer charities?

Pancreatic Cancer has the highest mortality rate of all the major cancers
- 95% of sufferers will die within five years of diagnosis
- 76% of sufferers will die within the first year of diagnosis
- Pancreatic cancer research and awareness at its current stage is where breast cancer was in the 1930s.

It defies belief that over 80% of people diagnosed in the UK will die in less than one year. My aunt was one of those people.
She was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer on 1 March 2007, and passed away on 15 April 2007. That's a painful six weeks we had to watch her fade away; knowing that I was losing my rock, who had always been there for anyone and effortlessly inspired those around her.

So, if this has moved you, and you can help to raise awareness of this cancer, and support the work of Pancreatic Cancer UK, please visit my JustGiving page:

So, back to the work being done to raise the money! Well, one piece of good news is my continuing weight loss as well as the inches loss.
I've lost another 3kgs this month; but more excitedly than that - I have now lost a whopping 19.5 inches from around my body! 11.5 of those are from my waist - I am now truly an hour-glass shape!
I am continuing to build up my fitness levels - and can now manage to squat and lift a 12kg kettleball - 200 times!! Add to that, squatting and lifting a 10kg sandbag another 100 times - and that's only in the first ten minutes of my training session!
I (wisely or otherwise!) also signed up for a 5K race this summer! 5 months ago, I couldn't even run for a bus!

The diet is going pretty well; although the motivation has been a little challenged this last month at times. But it is getting easier to get back on track; especially with the help of friends, work colleagues and a well-known fitness trainer and author! ;-) (SL)
Talking of weight management, have you tried the new Lunch Box Diet on-line tracker?

http://www.lunchboxdiet.co.uk/index.php/personalise

This tracker system is your one-step support to managing your diet; whether that be the Lunch Box Diet or not. You only need to fill in your details, and the programme works all your meals out for you! If you're honest with it (and you do need to be!) - it tells you when to cut down, when to increase your food intake and manages your eating diary for you! It also pulls together a shopping list for you - saving you money and effort! This way, you only buy what is necessary - saving you money on wasted food.
Give it a try today!

So, now to the final piece of what you would call good news! Many of my work colleagues are going to be somewhat surprised by this announcement.
On my journey to date, it's been brought to my attention (and I have come to realise) that I can use my personal experiences and knowledge to help others. As such, (apart from the book I'm writing - more of that next month!) I've decided to seriously consider re-training as a counsellor. Whatever happens, won't happen for at least another two years - I need to study, re-qualify and decide on a new career path.
As this option is all new to me, I'm grateful for your comments and suggestions.

So, that's it for what has been quite a lengthy blog this month - thank you for reading - let's catch up again mid April!

Take care,
Lyn
